Dern's martial arts journey began long before her transition to MMA, heavily influenced by her father, legendary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Wellington "Megaton" Dias. Earning her own black belt at a young age, she dominated the international BJJ circuit, securing multiple World and ADCC titles before making her professional MMA debut in 2016. Her elite submission game immediately made her a dangerous puzzle for the strawweight division, forcing opponents to respect her lethal ground transitions.
Over the years, Dern's game has undergone significant refinement under high-level coaching staffs. While her jiu-jitsu remains some of the most feared in the promotion, her striking volume and defensive footwork have adapted to meet the demands of modern MMA. At 33, she navigates a crowded 115-pound landscape featuring both dominant champions and surging prospects, utilizing her veteran fight IQ to stay relevant in title conversations.
