Reaching the Peak: How Mahuchikh Shattered a 37-Year-Old Record
The global track and field community witnessed history in July 2024 when Mahuchikh cleared 2.10 meters at the Paris Diamond League meeting. This historic leap finally broke the legendary 37-year-old world record of 2.09 meters, which had been held by Bulgaria’s Stefka Kostadinova since 1987. Shortly after this feat, Mahuchikh solidified her legendary status by capturing the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Competing under immense pressure and training away from her war-torn home country of Ukraine, her resilience has transcended the sport. Her signature sleeping-bag routine between jumps—designed to keep her muscles warm and mind relaxed—has become an iconic image in modern athletics. Into the 2026 season, she remains the athlete to beat at every major international meeting, consistently clearing the 2.00-meter barrier with unparalleled grace.
